What’s for Dinner is an expository text that shows children the main type of food that animals and insects eat.

Animals and insects are shown eating their food on a two-page spread. The main food source is pictured and labeled in the top right hand corner.

Interest words include caterpillar, leaves, meat, bananas, and eat. The text is composed of a few high-frequency words such as likes and to. The initial constant c appears in the words caterpillar and cow. An index is located at the end of the book and is organized by food.
