The story has a problem solution structure.  The text is composed of a variety of sentence typesIllustrations set against photographic backdrops support the text but not all events are shown.  Ellipses are used.  The book concludes with a two-page spread that tells how to write a narrative.

Some words may require clarification: dodge, powder snow, gradually, painstakingly, burning desire, partially.  Similes: shone like a jewel, shook like jelly, flew out like a wave behind his board.
