Out of the Egg

Out of the Egg is an informational text describing and showing the emergence of a tortoise from an egg. The step-by-step text captures the drama of new life.  The text is composed of simple language patterns that are close to oral language.

All of the sentences are short and similar in structure.  Spectacular labelled photographs match the text directly.  A sidebar illustration appears on every page showing the sequence of the tortoise’s emergence.  Arrows emphasize the idea of stages, and stages yet to come are shown in dark shadow.  An exclamation mark is used.  The book concludes with an index.
