I Like Hats

I Like Hats is a fiction story about a clown trying on different things that he likes. In the end, the clown goes to a plant, pet, and grocery store to buy a hat! He eventually ends up at a hat shop. Readers gain information from the text, illustrations, storyboard and speech bubble.

I Like Hats uses the sentence stem “I like…” Illustrations match the text. The story includes triggering in questions. There are critical thinking questions to guide the reader. A teacher guide for reading the text and visual information is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to illustrations, starting points, and speech bubbles. There is a high frequency word list within an illustration at the end of the story. An activity on drawing a picture with a caption of themselves as a clown is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
