Making Things Right is a realistic story about two Cree children who have lost their mother.  The grieving siblings are furious when social services arranges for their estranged father to come live with them, but as the story draws to a close, one of the children has begun to understand that people can change.  The book concludes with Reflecting on the Story and Turtle Island Circle, features that provide additional information and prompt reflection and extension.

The book has a Contents and is divided into chapters.  A variety of sentence types is used.  Illustrations support the text but most scenes are not illustrated.

The vocabulary reflects the everyday speech of children.
