Taanishi: Squeak Squawk

Squeak Squawk! is a humorous story about a Métis boy learning to play the notes he needs to play “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” on the fiddle.  The inside front cover offers cultural background information and the inside back cover provides instructional suggestions.

Each page follows the sentence pattern “Play a [note, such as D] on the fiddle,” John said.  “Squeak, squawk,” went Andy’s fiddle.   Photographs support the text directly.

The vocabulary reflects the speech of young children.
