9781480745599

What Makes a Plant is an informational text that explains the life cycle of a plant and how new plants look like their parent.  A two-page activity written in  procedural language invites students to explore the parts of a plant.

The book is divided into sections with some subsections. Illustrations, including labeled photos and diagrams, are used to convey information. Punctuation includes periods, commas, and exclamation marks. Italics are used for emphasis. Fact boxes provide additional information. A table of contents, a glossary and an index support the reader.

Compound words, plurals, and common connectives are used throughout the text. A pronunciation guide is provided for some words, such as cycles (SAHY-kuhlz).  Glossary words are bold faced throughout the text.
