Science Readers: Rocks and Minerals

Rocks and Minerals is an informational text that describes types of rocks, the rock cycle, and rocks as natural resources.  Questions posed directly to the reader prompt personal connections. A two-page experiment invites students to explore how minerals can form crystals. 

The book is divided into sections and some subsections.  Sentences vary in length and structure.  Illustrations in a variety of forms, including photographs and diagrams with labels or captions, are used to convey information. Fact boxes provide additional information. A table of contents, glossary and index support the reader.

Pronunciation guides are given for some terms, such as igneous (IG-nee-uhs). Glossary words are bolded throughout the text.
