Rocks and Minerals is an informational text that describes types of rocks, the rock cycle, and rocks as natural resources.  Questions posed directly to the reader prompt personal connections. A two-page experiment invites students to explore how minerals can form crystals. 

The book is divided into sections and some subsections Sentences vary in length and structure.  Illustrations in a variety of forms, including photographs and diagrams with labels or captions, are used to convey information. Fact boxes provide additional information. A table of contents, glossary and index support the reader.

Pronunciation guides are given for some terms, such as igneous (IG-nee-uhs). Glossary words are bolded throughout the text.
