Rupert's Ice Cream Shop

Rupert’s Ice Cream Shop is a humorous and realistic fiction story about Rupert who owned an ice cream shop but was unhappy that the ice cream was white. He added spinach to make it green and bananas to make it yellow. The kids in his store did not want the ice cream those colours. He looked up a new recipe on the Internet...rainbow ice cream! The story is narrated with dialogue, labels, signs, and illustrative text.

Rupert’s Ice Cream Shop is a simple narrative story. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to and compare the type on the Internet screen and the text. There is an exemplar of a Recipe at the end of the book for Rainbow Ice Cream. An activity on making up their own ice cream recipe is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
