Grandpa’s New Scooter is a realistic and humorous fiction story about Dana and her dad visiting grandpa. Grandpa was feeling unhappy about being old and sore so he decided to buy a scooter. Grandpa told Dana the scooter was too slow so he decided to make some changes, and eventually Dana and grandpa went racing through the park on his new space-age scooter. The story is narrated from the girls’ perspective with dialogue between characters, thought bubbles, visual list, and speech bubbles.

Grandpa’s New Scooter is a simple narrative story. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to the speech bubbles, illustrated thought bubbles, layout, and design.
