Grandpa's Lost Parade

Grandpa’s Last Parade is a narrative about a special relationship between Jimmy and his grandpa.  The upcoming Remembrance Day parade will probably be Grandpa’s last, but disaster strikes when Grandpa can’t find his medals.  The story is told in dialogue and narrative.

The story has a problem solution structure.  The text is composed of a variety of sentence types.  Illustrations support the text but not all events are illustrated.  The book concludes with a two-page spread that tells how to write a narrative.

Some words may require clarification: gulped, muscled, gusty, signposted, blaring, frail, flannel, transparent, montage, knick-knacks, shuffle, crammed, littered.  Similes: like fallen leaves, like jeans in a dryer, like a dry cake, like shiny letters into a blue envelope.  Metaphors: his arm froze in mid-air, blue tongue of torn leather.
