Exercise Time is a series of humorous and realistic fiction timetables for a variety of businesses, chores, and fitness. Some of the timetables include: Training Timetable for Geese, Timetable-Dog Day Care Centre, and Machine Timetable Monday, March 29. The story includes a visual timetable on each page and a character explaining their timetable to the reader through speech bubbles.

Exercise Time is designed as a series of seven timetables demonstrating how different types of people use timetables. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text by showing parts of the timetable in action. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to the graphics, styles, fonts, and speech bubbles as well as the information, layout, and design of timetables. There is an infographic at the end of the story outlining the purpose and procedures for writing a timetables. An activity on writing their own timetable is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.

Readers develop vocabulary such as nouns (lunch), verbs (clean), singular/plural (goose/geese), and abbreviations (am - before noon). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes to show possession (rats’ cage), apostrophes within contractions (I’m), colons, and dashes. Focus on the suffix y (healthy) and base words (beautiful).
