Big Bird

Big Bird is a realistic narrative about two children who find an injured albatross on the beach. After getting hurt and realizing they couldn’t help the bird, one of the child’s fathers is called and they help nurse the bird back to health.

Illustrations support interpretation and enhance enjoyment. Colourful, illustrative text is used throughout the story.

Onomatopoetic words such as hiss-honk and crack are used. Many sentences begin with subordinate clauses. Adjectives include brave heart, sleek jet, and bung eye. A double consonant after a short vowel appears in stopped, dropped, flapped, and ruffled. To conclude, information about what a narrative is, as well as supporting illustrations, are presented on a two-page spread.
