The Bird
The Bird is a fictional animal fantasy story about a bird that went different places. The bird tries to go in a bird bath, but cannot fit. The bird went in a pool instead! Readers gain information from the text, illustrations, storyboard, and speech bubble.
The Bird uses the sentence stem “I went to the…” Illustrations match the text. The story includes triggering in questions. There are critical thinking questions to guide the reader. A teacher guide for reading the text and visual information is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to illustrations, starting points, storyboard, and speech bubbles. There is a high frequency word list within an illustration at the end of the story. An activity on drawing a picture with a caption of a place they have visited is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
