Animals in the Water

Animals in the Water is an informational text about animals that are at home in the water.  The text has two repeating language patterns, “Look at the ________.” and “The ________ are in the water.”  The text concludes with a twist as readers learn that the penguins are not only in the water but also up on the water.

All the sentences are short and nearly all are predictable.  Vibrant photographs match the text directly. The final two-page spread has cameo photographs of all the animals and an index. 

The high frequency words are too and up.  Interest words include fish, water, and hippopotamus.
