Travelling Animals is an expository nonfiction text that explains how some animals move from one place to another to find food or water, have babies or lay eggs, or find a warm place. Readers gain information from the text, map, key, captions, labels, fact boxes, and life cycle diagram.

Readers develop vocabulary such singular/plural (egg/eggs) and homonyms (their/there). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes to show possession (parents’) and apostrophes within contractions (don’t). Focus on long and short vowel e and look at suffixes and base words (warmer).
