Illustrations show an overall image of the animal at the top corner. The rest of the page is covered in a close-up photograph of the animal’s skin, spikes, scales, or feathers.

The initial consonant h appears in hedgehog, horse, hair, and hen. Concept words are illustrated well by pictures. An index is located at the end of the book which includes each animal and their corresponding page numbers.
