Alligator Alley is a humorous fantasy about a Mrs. O’Malley who doesn’t hear the animals’ repeated warnings “Beware, beware!  Don’t stop! Don’t stare!”  The sentence stem “This is a nice place to ________” expresses the Mrs. O’Malley’s view of Alligator Alley, and in the surprise ending, her snoring as she naps scares the alligators away.  The story is told through simple dialogue and narrative.

The story has a beginning, middle, end text structure.  All the sentences are short and largely predictable.  Mrs. O’Malley and Alligator Alley are capitalized names.  Quotation marks are used in dialogue.  Humorous illustrations support the text directly and add meaning

The contractions don’t, there’s, and what’s are used.  Interest words include dilly-dally, snooze, beware, and stare.
