Bear Listens is a simple story about how Bear learns by listening to the wisdom of the Sun, the Water, the Trees, Mother Earth, and the Moon.  The story takes place in the Plateau region near the West Coast of North America and reflects the importance of nature to the Aboriginal peoples who live there.  The book concludes with Teachings from Turtle Island and Turtle Island Circle, features that provide additional information and prompt reflection and extension.

All the sentences are short and simple.  Beautiful illustrations support the text directly.  Quotation marks are used.
