Trunks, Humps, and Tails

Trunks, Humps, and Tails is an expository text about animals that have trunks, humps, and tails. Camels, monkeys, elephants, and whales, are the focus of this book. The sentence stem, “Look at the ____” is used to introduce each animal. It is bolded and in colour.

Labeled illustrations enhance and extend the meaning of the text and are found on each page. Callouts prompt prediction and allow students to make inferences. An index is presented.

Adjectives appear. To conclude, a mapping chart is shown that asks readers to match up a picture of each animal with their trunk, hump, or tail. In addition, a word bank with text and imagery is provided.
