Trains

Trains is an informational text about different types of trains, new and old, and about where trains can travel.  The text is composed of simple language patterns that are close to oral language.

All the sentences are short and similar in structure.  Labelled photographs match the text directly.  A labelled illustration is used to show a train travelling in an underwater tunnel.  Exclamation marks are used for emphasis. The book concludes with an index.

The high frequency word is can’t.  Interest words include smoke, bell, and tunnel.  The positional words are over, under, in, and on.
