The Turkey

The Turkey is a humorous and realistic fiction story about a father and son looking at different farm animals together. When they look at the turkey and the parts of a turkey, it scares the dad away! Readers gain information from the text, illustrations, diagrams, and speech bubbles.

The Turkey uses the sentence stem “Come and see the _____.” Illustrations match the text. The story includes triggering in questions. There are critical thinking questions to guide the reader. A teacher guide for reading the text and visual information is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to illustrations, starting points, and speech bubbles. There is a high frequency word list within an illustration at the end of the story. An activity on drawing a picture with speech bubbles of themselves and an animal that they like is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
