The Special Photo

The Special Photo is a realistic adventure presented as a first-person recount.  A young, snorkelling photographer who wants to win a photographic competition makes multiple dives in search of a really special photo.  He discovers a dark spooky hole and musters his courage to explore.  His perseverance and bravery are rewarded when he snaps a spectacular photo.  Descriptive language captures the excitement and wonder of the adventure.

The recount relates the adventure as a sequence of events.  A variety of sentence types are used.  Illustrations support the text and convey a sense of mood.  Key events are highlighted by orange type in an interesting font.  The book concludes with a two-page spread that gives the characteristics of a recount, including information about who the story is about, when and where it takes place, what happens, and how the story ends.

Some words may require clarification, including album, eel, stingray, and other names of sea creatures.  The adjectives flapping, colourful, and spooky are used.  The pronouns I, it, me, and my are used.  Two similes appear.
