Team Player

Team Player is a realistic recount about a soccer player named Essie who feels that she did not defend the ball well enough which causes the other team to get a goal. One of the boys on her team tells her that she should be a team player which results in Essie dodging players and passing the ball to another team member, allowing him to shoot and score a goal. She is happy at the end because she made a great pass and considers herself a team player.

Illustrations extend and enhance the meaning of the text. Speech bubbles and thought bubbles are used to convey meaning.  Some illustrative text is used.

Adjectives such as good, super, and great, appear in the text. To conclude, a two-page spread invites readers to learn about the characteristics of a recount with supporting examples from the story.
