Fiction Readers: The Dream Team

The Dream Team is a realistic fiction about a group of friends who decide to join a soccer team. The team feels down from losing game after game, but with practice they manage to improve and even end up winning a match.

The story unfolds chronologically in third-person narrative following a single plot line.  The format is a beginning chapter book with some text in the form of a poem. Illustrations support and enhance the text.

The Dream Team uses several sentences that begin with subordinate clauses, phrases, or transitional words. The text uses some compound sentences involving simple connectives. Contractions such as wouldn’t, we’re, we’ll, didn’t, and you’re are present within the text. A lot of dialogue is presented within the text in a variety of ways, including dialogue from multiple characters and unassigned dialogue.
