Taanishi: Where's the Roogaroo?

Where’s the Roogaroo? is a realistic fiction story about the traditional werewolf of Métis stories. Roogaroo is hiding on, in, between, and around different things. The story is narrated with photographs.

Where’s the Roogaroo? is a simple narrative. There is a cultural connection description at the beginning of the story for teachers. The story mainly asks questions about where Roogaroo is in the photographs. Photographs match the text. Opportunities arise to discuss text features including the glossary. The text includes a lesson for teachers to ask questions before, during, and after the story. At the end of the story, there is a responding activity where students can sketch out their interpretation of the Roogaroo. 

Readers develop vocabulary with high-frequency words (is) and positional words (around). Opportunities arise to focus on initial consonant r (Roogaroo), question marks, and exclamation marks.
