Survival! Jungle is an expository text about what to do if you are lost in the jungle, including information on finding your way out of the jungle, sending help signals, staying hydrated, making a fire, finding food, advice for dealing with bugs, and survivor stories.  The style is conversational and informative.

A variety of sentence types is used.  Information is presented by the main text, captioned photographs, illustrations, diagrams, maps, tables, lists, and text boxes that highlight definitions and interesting facts. A Contents, glossary, index, bibliography, and websites for further research are provided. 

New terminology such as leeches, perspiration, and indigenous is defined in context. The contractions don’t, it’s, that’s, and can’t are used.
