Saving Culture from Disaster

History is everywhere you look. But what happens when there is a disaster, such as a flood or an earthquake? People called conservators visit places hit by disasters. They work to save the items that represent the local culture. Learn about the methods that conservators use to save important cultural artifacts, and why saving these items is so important.

Created in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, this book builds students' literacy skills while fostering curiosity, creativity, and innovation. It features a hands-on STEAM challenge that guides students through each step of the engineering design process and is ideal for makerspace activities.
