Noises in the Night is a recount by a new immigrant boy who is going on his first camping trip.  His friend finds the jitters a bit silly until one of his own fears surfaces and the new boy reassures him.  Both boys find courage in the new boy’s dragon figurine.  The style is friendly and conversational.

The text is composed of a variety of sentence typesIllustrations support the text but not all events are illustrated.  Bold face and italic are used for emphasis.  The book concludes with a two-page spread that tells how to write a recount.
