Mickey Maloney’s Mail is a series of fictional E-mails, faxes, and letters written for the famous spy Mickey Maloney. Mickey Maloney receives mail from fans, the company he works for (Big Wig), The Spy Shop, friends, and the doctor. The story focuses on the text features within sending different messages.

Mickey Maloney’s Mail is designed as a series of nine messages sent in the mail to Mickey Maloney to demonstrate what different mail looks like and why people write mail. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to the graphics, style, and font as well as the information, layout, and design of the faxes, E-mails, letters, notes, and invitations. There is an infographic at the end of the story outlining the purpose and procedures for writing mail. An activity on writing and sending a message is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.

Readers develop vocabulary such as nouns (mail), verbs (send), and singular/plural (hole/holes). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes to show possession (bird’s) and apostrophes within contractions (didn’t). Focus on short and long vowel o, the suffix ly (silently), and base words (getting).
