Looking at Fish is an expository text that invites readers to become familiar with the parts of a fish.

The book begins by showing a photograph of a fish with its teeth, mouth, eyes, head, skin, and tail labeled. Photographs throughout label one body part of each fish. A few pages identify the types of skin fish have, whether spotted or striped.

To conclude, an index is presented. In the Guide Notes for teachers, an activity that requires students to draw and label their own fish is shown.
