Lazy Duck BIG BOOK
Lazy Duck is a humorous animal fantasy. Each day of the week Lazy Duck watches busy animals working on the farm. He sings his own little song about what a lazy lucky duck he is until the farmers tell him he’s headed into the pot for tea. At the animals’ advice, Lazy Duck sings a new song on Saturday about “the busiest duck you’ve ever seen.” The story is told through simple dialogue and narrative with numerous repeated language patterns. Duck’s song is repeated several times.
The story has a beginning, middle end text structure. All the sentences follow a similar pattern and are largely predictable. Quotation marks, exclamation marks, and commas are used. Capitals are used for Lazy Duck’s name and the days of the week. Humorous illustrations support the text directly and add meaning.
The contractions I’m, we’ll, it’s, you’re, and you’ve are used. The compound word farmyard is used. Interest words include waddled, prowled, scratched, thistles, and beetles.
