Granny
Granny is a humorous and realistic fiction story about Jake’s Granny going to the Jungle. While in the jungle, Granny sent postcards describing the animals, mountains, desert, and insects. Jake then sees a newspaper report about Skydiving Granny! Jake and Granny go on a Submarine adventure next. The story is narrated with postcards, a newspaper report, and illustrative text.
Granny is a simple narrative story. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to and compare the layout and design of newspaper reports and postcards. There is an exemplar of two post cards at the end of the book to show the front and back of a postcard. An activity on creating a postcard is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
