Fun Zone

Fun Zone is a fictional travel guide about a variety of fun zones. The story outlines the things to do and see at the different fun zones and what makes them unique. Some of the fun zones include Billionaire Island, Parrot Land, and Dinosaur Land. Each fun land includes a map and key for students to view while reading. The story also includes zoomed in illustrations to show what is going on at certain locations on the map.

Fun Zone is designed as a series of six fun zones with information to help navigate the different fun zones. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to the information, layout, and design of the maps and keys. There is an infographic at the end of the story outlining the purpose and procedures for designing a travel guide. An activity on designing a travel guide with a map is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.

Readers develop vocabulary such as nouns (park), verbs (ride), and singular/plural (buggy/buggies). Opportunities arise to discuss colons, dashes, and inverted commas. Focus on the suffix ful (careful) and base words (exciting).
