Zoo Hullabaloo is a humorous and realistic fiction story about a girl going to a zoo and hearing all of the different animal sounds. The zoo wasn’t quiet until she finally reached the crocodile and smiled. The story is narrated with illustrations, speech bubbles, onomatopoeia, and illustrative text. 

Zoo Hullabaloo is a simple narrative story. Illustrations match the text. Draw students’ attention to the visual features including the layout and design of the story as well as the illustrative text, speech bubble, signs, and labels. Focus can also be placed on the purpose of speech bubbles

Readers develop vocabulary such as transitional words (then) and verbs (smiled). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes within contractions (it’s), capital letters at the beginning of sentences and exclamation marks. Focus on double consonants (baboons).
