Fiction Readers: The Marshmallow Man

The Marshmallow Man is a realistic fiction about a little boy’s day at the state fair. After food, rides, and candy, Charlie enters a costume contest.

The story unfolds chronologically in third-person narrative following a single plot line.  The format is a beginning chapter book with illustrations that support and enhance the text.

The Marshmallow Man uses some simple adjectives and descriptive language. The text uses several sentences that begin with subordinate clauses or phrases and some compound sentences involving simple connectives.  A lot of dialogue is presented within the text in a variety of ways, including dialogue from multiple characters and unassigned dialogue. Several hyphens are used within the text.
