Fiction Readers: The Lovely One

The Lovely One is an animal story based on true events about a giraffe named Beloved that travels from Africa to France as a gift to the King. 

The story unfolds chronologically in third-person narrative following a single plot line.  The format is a beginning chapter book with illustrations that support and enhance the text. 

The Lovely One uses some simple adjectives, descriptive language, and possessives such as Beloved’s, baby’s, mother’s, advisor’s, general’s, and king’s. The text uses several sentences that begin with subordinate clauses, phrases, or transitional words. A lot of dialogue is presented within the text in a variety of ways, including dialogue from multiple characters and unassigned dialogue.
