9781433355349

The Glass Slippers is a fractured fairytale based on a traditional tale about a kind girl named Cinder who had two mean stepsisters. Cinder always had to stay home and clean…even when her stepsisters were invited to a grand ball! A Fairy Godmother gave her beautiful clothes to go to the ball, but when the clock struck midnight…her shoes grew wings! The story is narrated with dialogue, illustrations, illustrative text, and an invitation.

The Glass Slippers is a simple narrative story. Illustrations match the text. Draw students’ attention to the visual features including the illustrative text, invitation, layout, and design of the story. Opportunities arise to discuss the structure and procedure for writing an invitation as well as the information included in an invitation

Readers develop vocabulary such as compound words (stepsisters), verbs (clean) and adjectives (grand). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes to show possession (Cinder’s), apostrophes within contractions (I’m), capital letters at the beginning of sentences and names (Fairy Godmother), quotation marks, exclamation marks, and commas.
