The Bremen Town Musicians: A Retelling of the Story by the Brothers Grimm is a humorous animal story about a Donkey who decides to run away to Bremen to become a town musician when his owner decides that he is too old to continue living and working on the farm. On the way, he meets several other animals in the same situation.

The story unfolds chronologically in third-person narrative following a single plot line.  The format is beginning chapter book with illustrations that support and enhance the text.

The Bremen Town Musicians: A Retelling of the Story by the Brothers Grimm has several sentences that begin with subordinate clauses, phrases, or transitional words. The text uses some simple adjectives and descriptive language with a wide variety of punctuation (period, comma, quotation marks, question marks, and exclamation points). A lot of dialogue is presented within the text in a variety of ways, including dialogue from multiple characters and unassigned dialogue.
