Fiction Readers: Boris keeps Fit

Boris Keeps Fit  is a humorous and fictional animal fantasy story about a dog, Boris, always feeling grumpy and not enjoying the outdoors. One day, Polly Pooch started making fun of Boris for being so lazy. Boris started working out. The next time Boris went to the park, he was able to chase Polly until she couldn’t run anymore! The story is narrated with dialogue and illustrations. 

Boris Keeps Fit is a simple narrative story. Illustrations match the text. Draw students’ attention to the visual features including the illustrative text on the cover, layout, and design.

Readers develop vocabulary such as singular/plural (cloth/clothes) and positional words (on). Opportunities apostrophes within contractions (didn’t), capital letters at the beginning of sentences (Boris), exclamation marks, commas, and quotation marks. Focus on suffixes and base words (running).
