Disappearing Sharks

Disappearing Sharks is an informational report.  The text describes how fishers catch sharks, why people catch sharks, why it’s unlikely anyone will experience a shark attack, how sharks are bred, and how sharks can be helpful.  The style is informative and conversational.

The book has a table of contents and is divided into seven sections, an introduction and six sections supporting the main idea.  The text is composed of a variety of sentence types.  Captioned and labelled photographs and comparison diagrams support the text and add meaning.  A Fact Box adds interest.  An index is provided.  The book concludes with a two-page spread that provides the characteristics of a report, including a topic, headings, supporting information, and visuals.

Some words, such as disappearing, breeding, and pups may require clarification.  The adjectives huge, large, sleek, and fast appear.  The pronouns they and their appear.  The adverb slowly is used.
