It’s a Record! is a report on Canadian animals and birds that hold amazing records for size, speed, and travelling distances.  Fact boxes titled “It’s wild!” provide additional information.  The style is conversational and informative.

Mostly simple sentences are used.  Some information is provided in tables.  A Contents lists the six sections in the book.  The text is supported directly by headings and labelled photographs.

Interest words include record, adult, male, mammals, female, tip, hunger, obstacles, and tundra.  The verbs live, jump, and travel are used.  The adjectives biggest, smallest, fastest, full-grown, and long-distance are used.
