Zack's Spots

Zack’s Spots is a realistic, humorous story about an imaginative boy who gets spots on his back and has to stay home from school. When Zack and his mum visit the doctor, they learn the spots are toast crumbs Zack picked up eating toast in bed. Characters are introduced at the beginning of the book with pictures and labels, and dialogue is shown in red type.

This story is a narrative text with a straightforward structure of a clear beginning, a series of episodes, and an ending. Illustrations add detail, interest, and humour to the text and are found on each page. Callouts prompt prediction and allow students to make inferences.
