Worm Work

Worm Work is an expository text that invites students to learn about the importance of worms, how they are farmed, what they eat, how they eat, and how they are harvested.

This text is divided into sections with some subsections that have bulleted points. Illustrations enhance and extend the meaning of the text. Fact boxes are used to share more information with the reader. A labelled diagram of the worm’s insides is shown. This book includes a table of contents, a glossary, and an index.

There are many content specific words, such as castings, gizzard, and abattoir, that are briefly explained in the text. Sentences vary in length and structure and contain multiple adjectives and adverbs. To conclude, an activity about how to write an explanation is provided and is broken into four steps that are supported by examples.
