Vinnie and Me

Vinnie and Me is a personal recount about a boy and his family who take in a mute foster child named Vinnie. When they take a boat trip to see dolphins, Vinnie speaks for the first time. The book also discusses text connections, planning a personal recount, and features of a personal recount. 

The first-person text is divided into chapters and a Contents is provided.  A variety of sentence types is used.  Illustrations support and enhance the text. Text boxes call attention to literary features such as onomatopoeia, alliteration, imagery, personification, idiom, malapropism,  similes, and metaphors and prompt the use of comprehension strategies, such as questioning, predicting, inferring, analyzing, and clarifying.

The text uses descriptive language.
