Turtle Island Voices: Nothing Scares Me!
Nothing Scares Me! is a realistic story about two Métis boys who are terrified by traditional tales of the famous Métis character Rou Garou. The boys are attending Back to Batouche Days and they hover in their tent at night while two old men tell tales by the fire, knowing full well that the boys are eavesdropping and making good sport of scaring them. The story is told in narrative and dialogue. The book concludes information on traditional Métis stories and the Métis people
The book is divided into chapters and has a Contents. The text is composed of a variety of sentence types. Boldface, italic, and enlarged type are used for emphasis. Illustrations support the text but not all scenes are illustrated. Turtle Island Circle provides extension activities.
Readers can infer the meaning of a small amount of text in Métis and French. Some words and phrases may require clarification, such as sinister, Lent, petrified, grace us with his presence, and bid good night.
