The Case of the Mysterious Paw Prints is a realistic story about Ryan and Justin, who are Mi’kmaq boys, and their friend Chris who form RCJ Investigations.  When Ryan discovers large, mysterious paw prints in the school corridors, all the clues lead to the science teacher, but the boys learn that jumping to conclusions can lead to trouble.  The story is told in narrative and dialogue.  The book concludes with a reflection on the lessons the boys learn and information about the Mi’kmaq people.

The book is divided into chapters and has a Contents.  The text is composed of a variety of sentence types. Illustrations support the text but not all scenes are illustrated.  Turtle Island Circle provides extension activities.
