Trouble is a humorous, realistic story about a dog who well deserves his name, Trouble, and the family who loves him.  Jo and Dad try to sneak out for a fishing trip without Trouble, but the dog doesn’t let them get away with it.  He finds trouble everywhere and ultimately causes trouble when he eats the bait.  Jo and Dad decide to visit the fish shop so they can bring home dinner.  The story is told in dialogue and narrative.

The story follow the pattern of a problem-solution narrative.  A variety of sentence types are used.  Illustrations support the text, although not all events are illustratedSpeech bubbles are used in a few illustrations.  Ellipses, apostrophes, and a hyphen are used.

Some words, such as traitor, spaniel, radar, and bait may require clarification.  The nouns gate, towels, umbrellas, and whiskers are used.  The verbs poked, grinned, sneak, pinched, chased, and arrived are used.  Several similes appear.
