The Goats is a fiction story about a little goat meeting a monster on a bridge. When the goat gets old and the monster tries to scare him, he is not scared anymore! Readers gain information from the text, illustrations, storyboard, and speech bubbles.

The Goats uses the sentence stem “I am a…” Illustrations match the text. The story includes triggering in questions. There are critical thinking questions to guide the reader. A teacher guide for reading the text and visual information is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to illustrations, starting points, illustrative text, and speech bubbles. There is a high frequency word list within an illustration at the end of the story. An activity on drawing a picture with speech bubbles of a monster is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
