The Biggest Pumpkin

The Biggest Pumpkin is a recount by Max, a boy determined to win first place in the Biggest Pumpkin competition.  His hopes are dashed when Mooloo the cow decides Max’s pumpkin looks good to eat, but Max has his moment of triumph when he tells his story at the fair.  The story is told in dialogue and first-person narrative.

The text is composed of a variety of sentence types.  Illustrations support the text directly.  Quotation marks and exclamation marks are used.  Colourful, enlarged type in interesting fonts enhances meaning.  The book concludes with a two-page spread that provides the characteristics of a recount.

Some words may require clarification: disaster, beetroot.  Simile: red as a beetroot.  The suffixes -er (higher), -en (frozen), and -ly (quietly, quickly) are used.
